Bio:
Dr. Merranda Romero Marin is a professor in the Department of Family and Consumer Science at New Mexico State University. She is also a Licensed Psychologist and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) specializing in the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Her primary research interests include equitable mental health treatment for diverse populations using strengths-based approaches.
In 2024, Dr. Romero Marin became the U-RISE Program Co-director, where she brings her expertise in mental health and therapy to support the program’s goals.
Outside of her work with U-RISE, Dr. Marin Co-directs the NMSU PACR team, teaches and trains students in the ethical practice of Marriage and Family Therapy including understanding the impact of poverty on children and family systems, promoting maternal mental well-being, and examining the effects of trauma on family and community systems. Additionally, she works with programs seeking to promote first-generation college students to degree completion. She currently holds state and national leadership positions including serving on the New Mexico State Board of Psychologist Examiners, she is Chair of the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Membership Board and is actively engaged in the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB).
